SE101 M6L1 – Job Stability

CONTACT FORM

For true success on the job, it is important for all of us to feel stable, in control, aware of our duties, comfortable with our surroundings, and have trust and a sense of comfort with our supervisors and coworkers.  For some, this does not come so easy due to life circumstances, mental health concerns, or simply just part of their personal “makeup.”  During the discovery process, “who the person is” will be “uncovered.”  The process and information collected in their Profile will include valuable information about how they handle life, stress, new situations, and more.  Of course, there will always be new environments, new situations, and things that might pop up that could never have been imagined.  How will the person you are supporting handle changes? How will they handle stress on the job? Preparation is critical, but knowing you are available, along with utilizing the team’s supports and natural supports will go a long way in ensuring happiness, success, and stability on the job.

What Does the Term Fading Mean? Why Is it Important?

  • Fading is systematically reducing the time spent teaching an individual on a particular task.
  • Fading is a gradual process. The time is determined according to the work task & person.  A typical fade may begin by reducing support in 15-minute increments in areas where the person is performing the task independently (but it could also be five minutes if necessary…it all depends on the person).
    • Fading can begin in one area, where a task is mastered, but not another. This will increase independence and job satisfaction.
  • Fading promotes worker independence.
